Umpawaug Cemetery

Umpawaug Cemetery is in a rural part of Redding, Connecticut.   Some well known artists are buried here.

Singer Mary Travers of Peter Paul and Mary lived in Redding for decades.  She died nearby in 2009.  (The house where she lived for many years is currently for sale.)  Her simple gravestone reads in part:

Mother.

Wife.

Friend.

Activist.

Voice of a generation that echoes through the ages.

The center gravestone honors jazz pianist Dave Brubeck and his wife.  Brubeck was awarded a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, among others.  He lived in nearby Wilton.  The gravestone reads in part:

How sweet the moonlight

sleeps upon the bank!

Here will we sit and let the

sounds of music creep in our ears,

soft stillness and the night become

 the touches of sweet harmony.

Jack, this is a fine looking old cemetery with notable residents. Cemeteries are great places to wander through to study the history of an area. Thank you for your comments, and the information on the Cannondale rail line. They are lucky to still have commuter rail service as so many rail lines have been abandoned,
