Hildene was Robert Todd Lincoln's summer home in Manchester, Vermont. Lincoln was one of four sons of Abraham Lincoln, but the only one to survive the teen years.
I wondered about the source of the wealth that created this large estate. Robert Todd Lincoln was a lawyer and business man who served as Secretary of War in the administrations of Presidents Garfield and Arthur. Later he was President of the Pullman Company and then its longtime chairman.
The house holds and displays many Lincoln family portraits and objects.
Lincoln had the house built around a huge pipe organ, which plays even today. Some of the pipes are hidden behind the balustraded cabinets of the central stairwell.
Lovely gardens are at the rear of the estate.

How do you decide which points of interest to visit when you travel? Do you use trip advisor or something else?
I was wondering where the money came from too...thanks for mentioning - now I don't have to look it up.
I was unaware of the link between Robert Lincoln and the Pullman Co. whose factory was in Chicago in a neighborhood built by the Company, an early planned community. That is an impressively large house.
Places I have been before, places I have heard about, brochures, maps, Trip advisor, searching "best of [place]", friends. Could be anything.
