This Makes Me Mad
The woman who lives in this Avon house works in her yard fourteen hours a day most days. For years she has opened her house and gardens several times a year to raise funds for local charities. Last year a woman suffered a minor injury when she tripped during the garden tour, where the path was level and maintained far better than most of us maintain our yards. The homeowner and insurance companies offered to pay for her medical bills, but the injured woman's husband brought a lawsuit anyways. Because of the litigation and increased insurance premiums, the homeowner can no longer afford to open the beautiful house and gardens to the public.
No good deed is unpunished.

Creating such a beautiful landscape by herself must have been some feat.
Yeah, like you couldn't trip on the pavement just outside this gorgeous place. Now I'm mad too.
Because one person was stupid, everyone is punished now!? i'm disgusted.
The lady who's able to create such a marvel deserves thanks, admiration and congratulations !
Since when is being clumsy basis for a lawsuit. Don't get me started on this one...
Another sad story re our litigious age. It's nice that one can still enjoy the gardens from afar, though.
What a travesty! Lowell is correct about labeling our society as one of a Litigious age. At least for some short-sighted people. Too bad she couldn't be countersued for a frivolous lawsuit. At least you can enjoy it from afar. It is a most unusual landscape.
Does she decorate for Christmas?
Oh Jack, that is one of those stories that makes my blood boil. This place looks unbelievable. I would so want to walk through that lovely garden. So, one greedy person has ruined it for everyone else.
Stunning gardens and flowers. What a terrible story of ignorance and bad will.
I don't blame you for being angry. Such is our society today. No one takes responsibility for their own mistakes/clumsiness. Accidents must have a cause, and the fault often lies with those having the most money.
How sad. Hopefully she will be able to open the garden soon. That is a great garden!
After being a lawyer for 39 years, I think it boils down to me versus the community attitude. Some people would never dream of making a claim for something like this. Some would see it as an opportunity to gain whatever they can. The division can be seen at all levels of society.
What a shame Jack, as someone said it just takes one greedy person to spoil it for all. Looks like it would have been such a lovely garden to walk around..
What a story, really no good deed goes unpunished...
This reminds me of a walk that Julie and I took on a trail in a national park outside of Cairns, Australia. There were signs about every 50 feet warning people that the trail was unpaved and to be careful so they would not trip. Of course everyone can see that the trail is unpaved. And it was a quite smooth trail of crushed stone. The signs became annoying and detracted from the experience of nature.
Such a beautiful place and incredible, colorful flowers and what a shame indeed, Jack!! What is it with some people???? I'll never understand??? Thanks for the lovely captures!! Enjoy your weekend!
What a shame. It's a beautiful place.
Well, I'm mad, too. And thankful that the gardener has not stopped gardening, so that you the photographer could take these beauties to share with us.
Sometimes the world is a sad place!
I agree with all that has been said above. Needless to say, your photographs are stunning.
You sure like to sue each other in America. I'm glad we don't have that culture where I live. I feel sorry for the garden owner.
Yay! makes me mad Jack .... what a beautiful garden .... a credit to the lovely owner.
This is beyond gorgeous and shows as such a labor of love.
I whacked my shoulder on the car door the other day. Think I should talk to that woman's husband about suing the car company?
Jack, you rascal you! Who would think you'd recognize the devil if he made an appearance? Sheesh!
For all the good she did the man's karma will come back to haunt his as* one day.
There's far too many stories like that these days, sadly. It makes me despair when I hear of good things - often traditions that have been continued for years - that can't happen anymore because of health & safety or litigation fears.
It's a beautiful garden - hopefully it will reopen.
a pox on that litigious clutz.
This is absolutely gorgeous! Shame on that greedy husband.
A wonderful place, incredible photos and a terrible story. Transfer the own faults to the others, this makes me angry
Litigation--the American disease.
That is really a shame. :(
What a unique and wonderful place!
As someone already said.
What a stupid and greedy guy this husband turned out to be, or perhaps he had always been like this!!?
