The Bridge of Flowers straddles the Farmington River in the Weatogue neighborhood of Simsbury. It is an 1892 metal truss bridge that is now open only to hikers, pedestrians and cyclists. Volunteers maintain the 48 flower boxes and 32 hanging baskets, with funds donated by local businesses.
'This is a bridge I would like to cross. I like the top photo with the other bridge in background. The second photo, who could argue with it's beauty.
What a wonderful idea! That is so pretty! I love the way the bright green of the sweet potato vines contrasts with the teal color of the bridge. And I like that you captured it when it is wet. It seems to make the colors more intense.
Really a wonderful bridge! Great pictures Jack.
This is a wonderful concept to convert an unused bridge from what would be an eyesore into an attractive amenity. I lik the teal color to soften the contrast between the plants and the metal.
How beautiful. The residents looking over this flowery bridge must be so happy.
What a lovely bridge, Jack! Wouldn't it be lovely to see more such nicely decorated ones?
have a nice weekend:)
Your city must have a big budget for flowers! I love this bridge. :)
Excellent contrast between the structural and the soft floral Jack, everything looks so good after a shower, are you still getting lots of rain, think we're coming to the end of ours unfortunately, the dams are only at about 35% full as yet, it will be a long dry summer methinks!!
The flowers are gorgeous! What a nice bridge and I would love to walk through!
The structure is also beautiful!
This is just gorgeous. It makes me want to walk across and maybe linger for a while on the way.
How beautiful! What a nice idea.
Very nice pictures. I was not aware of this bridge. The one I am aware of is this one:
Now I'm amazed, I have never seen anything of the kind. The top shot is gorgeous!
The overall effect of this floral bridge is stunning, with its beautiful wood planks and teal structure.
What great job they do, those volunteers! The bridge would be only a bridge without their decorating work.
Gorgeous flowers and hanging baskets! They really brighten up the bridge!
Great pictures, I love the first one.
Love the floral displays. It looks like they're being well watered by the rain too!
Wonderful! Where would we be without people who volunteer there time to do things like this!?
Stunning way to decorate a bridge. Nice to see the bridge is so well maintained.
wonderful! I have never seen a bridge like this!
That is really pretty! Looks like a good spot for a walk or bike ride.
Clever idea. Nice way to brighten up a dreary rainy day too! Kudos to the HDP staff for hiking midway across the bridge for this photo opp.
I like the combo very much. I took photos of a similarly adorned (although not as picturesque) bridge in Arroyo Grande close to San Luis Obispo. Very nice lighting in both photos.
Wonderful spot Jack!
I love bridges anyway...this one is artwork. I'd like to run across it...or saunter:D
Now, that gladdens my heart - hooray for the volunteers!
I've been away for a while, just getting caught up. This is so cool, Jack. I love it!
