Contemporary Glass

Hartford's Wadsworth Atheneun is currently exhibiting a terrific contemporary glass show.

"FIRED UP.  Glass Today."

Dante Marioni and John Kiley are Seattle-based collaborators who created this fascinating object.
Marioni does the time-consuming and elaborate interior and Kiley creates the sculptural exterior.

"Florencia" above and "Angel Tear" below right are works by elderly Italian glass artist, Lino Tagliapetra.
When I worked in Columbus, Ohio, I saw many amazing works by Tagliapetra at a glass gallery that specialized in works by Dale Chihuly and Tagliapetra and their acolytes.

"New Spring Blue Group" is a recent work by North Carolina glass artist Alex Bernstein.
Bernstein fuses steel forms to his glass.  I wanted to step back for a long view, so you can't see the steel details in these blue glass forms.  Sorry.

The Czech glass artist Martin Janecky crafted the mesmerizing glass head "Van" in 2014.

"Singer" is an intricate 2014 work by Texan glass artist Micah Evans.

More tomorrow.

So beautiful, so fragile...and Singer is not only both of those, but amusing too!
