Today's photo bridges Connecticut and Florida.
Mel Thomas was a star guard on UConn's elite women's basketball team from 2004 - 2008.
She was co-captain for two years and finished with nearly 1100 career points.
Her dreams of playing professional basketball crumbled along with her knees.
Today Mel is director of basketball operations at Florida Gulf Coast University,
an elite program on a much smaller scale.
Mel kept a journal about her senior season, parts of which were published in
The Hartford Courant. She turned it into a book, Heart of a Husky.

She's a charmer.
What a pretty face and great smile!
Beautiful!
This gal has improved with age. You've got quite the 'eye', Jack.
I guess Title IX also gives young women equal access to knee injuries.
Beautiful young woman. I'm glad she has made a career in her favorite sport despite not playing professionally.
She sounds like a wonderful combination of all the right stuff.
A lovely young woman and another wonderful "people" shot! I, too, am glad she has been able to make a career in her favorite sport! Her great smile says it all! Looks as though you've had a great weekend, Jack, as always!! Enjoy!!
