West Hartford's war memorial is a large spiral crafted from black granite. Names of the
West Hartford soldiers and sailors who died in the nation's service are engraved on the blocks.
The spiral is broken every year the country is at war. It is disturbing to see

(I tried this in black and white, and no, it doesn't look better that way.)

a very powerful evolving memorial. wow.
did you get creamed by that storm yesterday?
Life is all about learning... we have a lot to learn.
I really like this memorial. It's smooth and rough at the same time. Very nice way to remember those who gave their lives.
I'm suprised there are no protests to ensure the country stops going to war.
It's a visual reminder of what's wrong with the world.
Great memorial Jack. Thanks.
I read the other day that we have been at war every year for the past 60 years. Just trying to bring peace and democracy to people around the world - even if it kills 'em...
This is a powerful war memorial!
Ah...re your comment about my cynicism and your naivete - the bridge I can sell you at a great price. Let's say the whole thing, lights and all, for $100. Send check to Florida. OK?
I find it interesting how these memorials evolve in different ways. Wouldn't it be great if they became obsolete?
Wonderful memorial! Shame that the spiral still has to be broken!
All we have to do is hoping that the spirale will stop to be broken soon..but i'm pessimistic on this point..
Moving monument.
An ingenious and intriguing representation of a dysfunctional world. Sadly it doesn't look like the spiral will be fixed any time soon.
Beautiful, sad and definitely ingenious and a very moving monument! I'm afraid most of us are very pessimistic in regards to there being an end to the broken spiral of our world today. Superb capture and I like the touch of color -- that's about the only hope there is. Hope you have a good day in spite of everything, Jack!

This is a thought provoking excellent idea for a monument.
What a powerful piece! Let's hope it gets back together soon although the piece says more when it is disrupted.
Such a respectable place...

I like the memorial but it is a shame to continuously see it broken from war. Give peace a chance.
What a neat and meaningful idea for a monument. So it continues to be broken to this day?
I was wondering the same as T. Very nice shot.
That's an incredible memorial...sad yet powerful.
(As for your comment....A Hunk....can come in many forms. Hunk of rock, hunk of cake...is it always a good thing?;)
Must be a heartbreaking walk.
A very goot idea for a memorial, the visual representation of the state of war is striking.
Wow, how did I miss this yesterday Jack. What a dramatic way to show the ever present presence of war!! How do people come up with such amazing ways to bring awareness!! Fantastic.
Heartbreaking.

I agree with Brattcat, it's poewrful! Really sad, but a brilliant idea nevertheless.
This is very powerful. It is such a start reminder of how war disturbs the natural flow of life. Where exactly is this in West Hartford?
