Fort Myers Regional Library

A new library opened five months ago in Fort Myers' river district .

The 44,000 square feet building cost about $20 million.

There is an outdoor plaza for periodic sculpture displays,
public assemblies and concerts.

The monthly theme for City Daily Photo bloggers on May 1 is "Squares."

What a treasure for that city and area! Love the curve of the landing between the steps.

I hear there's a new Ralph Steadman biography due soon. He and Hunter Thompson: a team boarding on the edge of Hell. hahahahaha

That plaza has a lot of potential. I can see an art show there one day.

Gorgeous facility, nothing less than what you'd expect for $20 mil.
Am I the only one who saw "Corndog Plaza" on first read?

I believe a library is being constructed in downtown as well. Always interesting to see what the new libraries look like inside….with computers, ebooks, videos and CDs…and perhaps one or two old school books on the shelves.

Exceptional architecture. Is there anything inventive about how the library presents its resources to the public?

Makes me sad to think of the libraries needed in Haiti...where $500 would do amazing things. But it is all good. Keeping libraries going is a bit like book stores these days. Everything changes....
