A new library opened five months ago in Fort Myers' river district .
The 44,000 square feet building cost about $20 million.
There is an outdoor plaza for periodic sculpture displays,
public assemblies and concerts.
The monthly theme for City Daily Photo bloggers on May 1 is "Squares."

Glad to see they're still building these. :-)
Libraries just keep on getting bigger and more spectacular.
What a treasure for that city and area! Love the curve of the landing between the steps.
Wonderful set of images Jack.
That is a place I would like to explore.
Great looking library and we can never have enough or too many of those!! Terrific captures as always, Jack! Hope you're enjoying a lovely weekend!
What a beautiful building! It must be pleasant to look for books in there!
Looks like a beautiful day in Fort Myers. Impressive library!
I hear there's a new Ralph Steadman biography due soon. He and Hunter Thompson: a team boarding on the edge of Hell. hahahahaha
I like the place... and probably also the weather!
That plaza has a lot of potential. I can see an art show there one day.
I love that arcade with the hangings!
I like the architectural style!
I like the shadows in the second shot.
Gorgeous facility, nothing less than what you'd expect for $20 mil.
Am I the only one who saw "Corndog Plaza" on first read?
Tres jolie series of shapes and shadows Jack.
I believe a library is being constructed in downtown as well. Always interesting to see what the new libraries look like inside….with computers, ebooks, videos and CDs…and perhaps one or two old school books on the shelves.
Exceptional architecture. Is there anything inventive about how the library presents its resources to the public?
Makes me sad to think of the libraries needed in Haiti...where $500 would do amazing things. But it is all good. Keeping libraries going is a bit like book stores these days. Everything changes....
