First Congregational Church of Bethel

Established in 1759, this is the third Congregational Church built on this Bethel site.  The first burned down, the second fell victim to a tornado, and this Italianate structure was completed in 1867.

There is an old cemetery beside the church.  I saw someone cleaning an old tombstone.

It was Pat, a recently retired Ridgefield high school teacher who is Bethel's town historian.

Pat pointed out some places in Bethel I might want to visit on future trips.  Thanks, Pat.

I really like it when people clean tombstones, we have products here some use but others like to do it natural with vinegar etc.

Every town needs someone like him to keep things running and intact.

Jack, hope you take your camera to those historic sites in Ridgefield so we can join you. The church has a traditional, stately look about it. It certainly has been there a long time.
