Guest Photographer: First Anniversary

Daughter Susie and son-in-law Wes celebrated their first anniversary last weekend by taking a balloon ride in the skies above the Magaliesberg Mountains, northwest of Johannesburg and west of Pretoria.

These are Susie's photographs looking into the ballon as it was being fired up.

I always wanted to show Susie's photograph of one of her weimaraners.  So long as I have given the day over to Susie on her anniversary, here is Sequoia.

May Susie and her husband, Wes, have a future as bright and as varied with experiences as the umbrella's colors. They are so lucky to be in South Africa, one of the most interesting (and also sad) places to which I have traveled in the past. Hope that they are enjoying the people as much as I had.

Happy Anniversary to Susie and Wes and what a handsome dog!! I love her captures! My daughter in California and I took a balloon ride one summer over the wine country in CA and it was a fantastic experience! I loved being able to look the birds in the eye!! Thanks for sharing, Jack!!

Happy Anniversary to them, Jack, but I wouldn't go up in a balloon for anything! Love the dog pic.

I am torn between getting some good photos - and these are good - and my fear of heights. I think I probably will NOT try a balloon trip. Fun way to celebrate an anniversary though.

That is way cool. Something I'd like to do one day, although it's a bit terrifying.

Happy anniversary to Susie and Wes! A great way to celebrate, though doing that myself hasn't made it onto any to do lists here. . .

Weimaraners are beautiful dogs - I can almost feel those soft, sweet ears. And then I have to crack up thinking about the weimaraner in "Best of Show." Funny movie if you like the humor of Christopher Guest.

I had the chance to take a baloon ride in Kenya and I can't remember why I didn't. I will always regret it! Love Sequoia and the ballon shots too.

Gosh it doesn't seem that long since they got married and moved to South Africa Jack. Are they still loving it? That's a pretty fantastic way to celebrate..if you're not a 'landlubber' :))

Susie is a chip off the old block Jack. You taught her well. I"m drooling over the balloon shots. I hope to see them one day myself. Bring Susie back on board often.

Hi Dad - thanks for the lovely post:)
Ahem - maybe Jack's a chip off the ol' Susie;) (nah, probably not).

To all who seem fond of Sequoia - she's indeed very photogenic and full of 'personality.' Love her to bits (we have two Weimaraners) but would definitely not recommend them to folks who don't have lots of space... otherwise you get a handful of neuroses and a path of destruction!
