The Capitol's Dome

You have seen the Connecticut State Capitol from the outside many times before, like in this blog's banner photo and here and here and here.

It is time for me to go inside and show you some things.  But not before showing you the beautiful gold-leafed dome and the classical statues that ring it.

Very nice details Jack, the sculptures and the fretwork on the turret. I'm curious about the gold part, when you zoom in close it almost looks like some sort of covering, can you elaborate merci beaucoup!

Gorgeous! Now that is what a capitol dome should look like! I can't wait to see the inside.

On our drives to Jersey we pass twice a trip. Thanks for the closeup. Are they all women?

After seeing your photos of the interior of the Conn. Supreme Court chamber several weeks ago, "I am sure the interior of the Capitol will be impressive.

The dome is impressive. The Arizona state capitol has a very low, copper dome, with a single statute -- winged victory -- on top.

Even on a dull day it glows away in your shot! Real gold leaf?

It's really stunning and you must be able to see it shining from miles away, like the Golden Dome in Jerusalem. I'm keen to peep inside the building.

I guess each statue has a symbolic meaning: justice, art, etc...?Very classical and beautyful.

Stunning Jack! it looks like real gold leaf .... and the statues tres elegante! I'm imagining it lit up at night looking spectacular.

A little bling always makes a building more interesting and elegant looking. Even when it already is both. Just look around Paris.

Wow! That's fantastic. I guess they spend a lot of money keeping this clean and shiny.
