Wadsworth Atheneum

The Wadsworth Atheneum is Hartford's principal art museum.  Currently most of the outside is behind construction barricades, so it is a bit un-lovely.  But, the main entrance remains unscarred by the renovations, so long as I don't stand too far back.

An exhibition of Monet's water lilies opened this week.  This shot was taken in the fall.  There is probably snow, ice and crud there today.

Impressionist art work is my favorite. I would love to see the Monet water lillies. Looks like a great building.

Saw that wonderful show a few years back in Boston.

Beautiful entrance - it could grace one of our better universities, Oxford or Cambridge maybe. A fitting building for a lovely exhibition.

A beautiful building with castle-like qualities.

I like those columns!

That would be an exhibit I'd happily trek through the snow and crud to see.
Nice looking building too.

I love Monet and that entrance looks so inviting! We got rid of all our snow the last 2 days but it is cold here again today.

The arches are beautifully shaped. I like the way you've positioned the middle one perfectly to frame the arch and door inside.

Lovely building but the revolving doors are a bit distracting (though necessary with your weather)... I would love to see the Monet exhibit and have seen the huge one at L'Orangerie.

Impressive but not too grand entrance which is good. Are you going to brave the snow to see the waterlilies?

A majestic, but quiet, looking entrance.

You have so much lovely architecture up there! I love the look of this old place. :)

PS: I appreciate your comments on the new blog. That's exactly the kind of thing I need to know! I tried changing the color of the font, but I can't tell if it's different. Please stop by and take a look. And be honest. I can't improve things without honest criticism. :)

Nice entry but I think I would get rid of the revolving door.

Snow, ice and crud? Sounds like perfect reasons to duck inside and enjoy the exhibit. Btw, the SDP mgt. has made a notation to repost the Christmas music link in the fall,

As I've mentioned, I've been meaning to visit there but now I think I'll wait until the renovations are over before going back. I liked it there very much and lunch wasn't bad in the cafe, either.

Stay warm!
