The Loomis Chaffee School

The Loomis Chaffee School in Windsor, Connecticut, just north of Hartford, is a private coeducational school.  About 60 percent of the students in grades 9 through 12 are boarders and the remaining 40 percent are day students from surrounding cities and towns.

Founders Hall is the administration building as well as a classroom building.  It anchors one end of Grubb Quadrangle, with the dining hall at the other end and residence halls lining both sides.

Looks nice...wonder how much tuition runs. I really like that top shot with the students strolling carefree on campus. And here I thought you were shoveling snow while I was in sun drenched FM manatee watching...who knew?!

It looks like a beautiful campus, but I'll bet it is expensive, especially for the boarders.

It looks like a lovely campus! If we have any boarding schools in the West, I don't know of them. Boarding schools seem so East Coast somehow!

This place looks huge and those students look happy to be there...or were they just smiling because they saw the camera.

Students in the first photo seem to enjoy the school very much! Nice to see it!

Great shots, Jack... It looks like a lovely campus even in the winter... The students will probably be glad to see spring when it finally arrives.

I've always wondered what it would be like to go to a boarding school. Must be fun in a way. Looks like this is a nice place to study. And the kids certainly look happy!

Now that's a school I would have loved going to, though I'm not too sure about the boarding school bit.

It must be a lovely place to study - hope they appreciate it. I see your snow isn't melting very fast.

Still so much snow! I wonder what the temperature was when you took these shots, the guys look so relaxed... I know, they are used to it. :-)

Gorgeous building. I love the last shot down the archway (walkway, really). Great capture.

How did you get away with taking photos? I'm always so hesitant to shoot in/around a school area during school hours due to the risk of being accused of who knows what.

Great shots! No uniforms at the school?

Nice photos! What lucky students but I bet it is also difficult to be away from home.

This must be something to see in the spring, Jack. I figure you'll go back then to take more photos, right?

Boarding school are almost unknown here and looking at this I know we are missing something.

I taught in a similar private, independent school in St. Paul for 28 years and loved it. The campus was not as lovely as this, but the students are terrific as I a sure these lucky kids are. My only misgiving is that this education is not available to all students; so many would benefit from the curriculum and positive attention from faculty and staff. And, our country would be far better off, too. Really gets me fired up when I consider the inequities in our educational systems.
