Prairie Dogs

Prairie dogs were definitely near the top of the granddaughters' list of favorite animals at Beardsley Zoo.

Visitors went into tunnels with five or six pop-ups, that put kids' eyes at the level of the animals.

There might have been 30 to 40 prairie dogs in the pen.

The prairie dogs dug their own tunnels all over the pen.

Love those pop-ups. What a great idea.

What fun at the zoo. The center and western part of our state has many wild Prairie Dog towns. Many of our ranchers think of them as a pest as cattle and horses step in their holes and break legs. Also the Prairie Dog towns attract rattle snakes, and the Prairie Dogs themselves carry some bad diseases.
