Bank of Everglades

The Bank of Everglades was founded in Everglades City in 1923 by Barron Collier,
\the rich entrepreneur who built the Tamiami Trail (U.S. Route 41) and after whom
Collier County is named.  The Bank of Everglades shut down here after World War II
and the banking business moved to a more populated place.

The structure was badly damaged by Hurricane Donna in 1960.  Since then the building has been a boarding house, a newspaper office and a bed and breakfast.  In recent decades it has been empty often.  The building is on the National Register of Historic Places.

Bank Of Everglades sounds more like a garden feature than a financial institution. Pretty flash b&b.

What a beautiful bank it was! Nice that it got a second chance!

Too bad this historic building must sit empty. It should find a new use.
