Abraham Lincoln

Whenever I remember, I like to show a painting or statue of Abraham Lincoln on his birthday.
This huge statue sits in the National Cowboy and National Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City.

James Earle Fraser (circa 1930).

I wonder how many of the world's recent leaders will be remembered affectionately on their birthdays?

It appears that we don't make them like that anymore.

Excellent! You made me think of something I had forgotten all about. Many, many years ago when I visited Walt Disney World, there was a special exhibit on Abraham Lincoln. It contained an animatronic version of the man and when you entered the theatre, he was sitting in his chair and then he stood up and delivered one of his great speeches. It was very inspiring. If I remember correctly, I was still in high school when I saw that.

This is an impressive statue. I'll have to dig up a post I have featuring his life mask here.
