The Hartford Courant is America's oldest continuously published newspaper.
It is celebrating its 250th anniversary this year.
It is celebrating its 250th anniversary this year.
As part of its 250th anniversary celebrations, a Courant writer -- Dan Haar --
began walking and reporting on Route 44 this week. They created a
cartoon image -- "Flat Danny" -- to promote the walk.
Route 44 runs 106 miles across the state's northern border with Massachusetts. It begins at the New York border and ends at the Rhode Island line. Dan is walking about eight miles a day.
I caught up with him in Norfolk, a beautiful rural town northwest of Hartford.

The cartoon image is very good, really looks like Dan. What a fun way to celebrate 250 yeas. I hope the weather cooperates with Dan.
Going for a walk and getting paid for it? Smart Dan I would have called him.
I had to smile when I noticed that he has the same smile as his cartoon image.
Excellent likeness and well done!
Great portrait!
I love the local news in small communities, and I applaud Dan!!
What a great idea celebrate such an important anniversary. He'll have quite a feeling of accomplishment when he gets done.
Always thought 'the courant' was a strange and unique name for a daily. I'm sure ther's a history.
I hope the newspaper, at least in electronic form, lasts another 250 years.
A great anniversary to celebrate!! And Dan does indeed have the same smile as the cartoon image!! Wonderful captures for the day as always!! An interesting, different name for the paper!! Hope your weekend is off to a good start, Jack!!
Good portrait of him. The cartoon version looks like the editorial cartoonist for the paper drew it. I've seen Englehart's work.
Good for him Jack! It's nice to see a newspaper surviving so long!
I didn't know that about the Courant. May it last many more years - a real challenge.
I agree with Andy.
Happy anniversary to this glorious daily. We do not have newspapers that old here! By the way, good luck to Dan!
I've heard of Route 66 but not Route 44 - it'll be a long but interesting walk.
Dan's the man! Nice bit of reporting yourself here Jack.
I've enjoyed this series, Jack. Does it get easier asking people if you can take their picture?
