Six Buddhist nuns from the Keydong Thuk-che Choeling Nunnery in Kathmandu, Nepal, have been at Trinity College for the last two months. They are building a mandala, a sand painting used for prayer, contemplation, and healing. They pause from their work to perform chants, which are marvelously harmonized.

A compelling cultural photo...both of them. I'm very attracted to Buddhism, but have not made the leap.
I would love to hear the chanting. Your photos are wonderful. Like Kate, I am attracted to Buddhism.
Superb shots!
Love the first!
Thanks for sharing, Jack.

Hope you are having a fabulous week****
Buddhism really has some wonderful teachings. A classic photo in the first shot.
A group of Tibetan monks came to the Scottsdale Center for the Arts and performed their music and chants and made a mandala. It was fascinating.
Jack, these are fine photos of this group of nuns. The making of a sand mandala is a special event. Know you enjoyed being part of it.
This makes me think of the time I ran into the Dalai Llama in a hotel elevator in Austin Texas. It was a surreal but, very pleasant experience.
Very nice capture Jack.
I didn't realize they're called 'nuns'. You keep educating me, Jack! You're really making the rounds in Harford.
Wonderful captures, Jack, and a terrific post for the day! I, too, would love to hear the chanting! Thanks for sharing!!
Fascinating pictures.
I'm fascinated by Buddhism too but turned off by organized religion & all the rules! Nice shots.
Whooops! Thought they were guys.
I'm with Kate on this one. I would love to see the mandala when it's done.
Wow great photo! Very National Geographic. Taking a Zen Buddhist meditation class in Monterey right now but to see these authentic practitioners is pretty neat..
I am curious to see the mandala when it is finished.
Great shots! Love the setting at the bottom.
Both of these shots are intriguing and very fine. Hartford is kind of a happening place, isn't it?!
Must be even more interesting in person.
