Sunflowers for Wishes

Buttonwood Farm is an ice cream stand in the eastern part of Connecticut.  For the past nine years, they have hosted Sunflowers for Wishes in late July, when their 14 acres of sunflowers are at peak.  A bundle of sunflowers goes for $5.  The proceeds go to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, which serves children with life-threatening illnesses.

The fields of sunflowers are awe-inspiring.  The photographers and artists are out in force.  The ice cream is great.  The Button family is exceptionally generous.  As are the customers, who will buy more than $100,000 worth of sunflower bouquets this year.

Great post Jack. Buttonwood Farms is a favorite place of mine, and I've been up there many times photographing the sunflowers and have purchased some sunflowers. It's a great event. I might have get up there this weekend. I try not to go too often, since the ice cream is really good, and I have hard time resisting.

Such well-named flowers - they are so cheerful. It sounds a lovely idea to support that charity.

First, I have to say, your comment on my site yesterday made me laugh out loud! Loved it!
Second, this is just one of those heartwarming stories that people need to hear about. What a wonderful project and they couldn't have picked a better flower for their project. Sunflowers just make you smile! Love the photos today.

What a wonderful contribution, made in a way that many can participate. The sunflowers are wonderful and remind me of Provence.

We have friends with several acres of sunflowers which I was able to photograph last weekend, and I did escape with an armful!

Genie

I'd say 2 SUNflowers. One on the wall and then the field.

Nothing brings a smile to someone's face like a bright sunflower. Well, a sunflower and helping sick kids might bring a double smile. :D
