Out of the Jurisdiction: Heidelberg

Did I promise a few more pix from my recent trip?  OK.

It was a river cruise up the Rhine.  Central Europe is suffering a severe drought, so the water levels were low.  We could only get as far south as Koblenz on the ship.  The rest was by bus.  Not perfect, but still a good trip.

Heidelberg had nice details.

These are charming architectural details. Sorry that you did not get the convenience of staying on the river cruise and not having to pack and unpack to reach your destinations, but it sounds like you had a good attitude about it and enjoyed the trip anyway.

The stretch of the Rhine around Koblenz is unique. My son's 6th grade teacher had a special interest in Germany and taught a unit about the Rhine castles, focusing on Marksburg Castle. We took my son there at the end of his 6th grade. We drove up and down both sides of the Rhine in that area (and up the Mosel River as well).

I think my osn's early exposure to travel gave him the confidence to start businesses in India and Argentina when he was in college, leading to his eventual decision to develop his businesses in Argentina, to live there, and now to be married to a wonderful Argentine young woman.

I know your daughter is living overseas. It is an odd twist of fate how travel can lead to life-changing circumstances.

A quote says: "I have lost my heart in Heidelberg"(Ich habe mein Herz in Heidelberg verloren). And do you know that this dwarf you pictured, named Perkeo, drunk all of the 200 000 liters of wine rom the biggest barrel of the world?

I loved Heidelberg when I visited there and one of my favorite places was along the Mosel River. Such a beautiful country. These are wonderful details.

Great details Jack, love the wrought iron lions head, wouldn't mind having that somewhere on a wall!! How amazing that the water was too low to travel on, I never think of Europe as ever having droughts, it always seems to be raining when ever I've been there!

I agree with the others, you did indeed get some terrific details, Jack. I do love that area of Germany and there is so much fascinating history to be seen everywhere. I did enjoy the nearly two years that I lived there! Hope you have a great day!

I especially love those carvings in the last pic! The idea of a river cruise sounds so wonderful - too bad you had to bus it part of the way.

Heidelberg ist so schön. My grandparents used to take me there, it was a short hour's drive from where they lived. You're bringing back very fond memories here!

looooove these details. The rod iron lions are fabulous, I see I would have to persuade PDP that my wall needs it more.
