Garlands

I am having a brain freeze. These aren't doorways, because they don't have doors. They aren't arches, because they are square. Maybe they are portals. Help!
Now this is definitely my kind of decorations, I'd say 'entrances' Jack. The dictionary describes a portal as a doorway and as you've established there are no doors....!So beautifully done.
I took the Kangaroo shots at a place called Pinnaroo Jack about five minutes away from where I live, it's a cemetery with ajoining bushland. The Kangaroos just wander around freely and aren't enclosed in any way.
Interior archways (http://www.interior-archways.com/). After googling terms like "architecture doorways without doors" I learned more about doors than I care to learn, but finally saw a photo in the site mentioned above. After all that I had to return to admire your photo. Love the garlands and red balls. They are also a fitting decoration to use on outside doorways methinks.
Whatever you call them, they are gorgeous indeed and they certainly say "Holiday" to me as well! Wonderful captures as always, Jack! Hope your week is off to a great start!
Well, I'm no help on terminology here. Looks as if you're not having a brain freeze but a paucity of terminology. Beautiful passageway with gorgeous garlands. Very nice shot!
PS - weather in LA is lousy today. Luckily every other day is just fine. We had drizzle on Saturday and on Sunday (for the Arty Party) a perfect SoCal winter day.
Portal sounds too futuristic for me. How about 'entryway'? Whatever they're called, the Christmas decorations are lovely. Very appealing. (By the way, I also have one visitor from Iran and one from China. I nearly fell out of my chair when I saw those.)

If you can pardon the oxymoron, I think square archways would describe the scene, but not as well as your photo.

I would still call them doorways or arches even though they do not fit the terms exactly, very festive!
