Fan Window

Essex, Connecticut

In the US, windows above doors are called transom windows, which is kind of a blah term for one as nice as this one in Essex.  Wikipedia says that the Brits call them "fanlights," regardless of their shape.  Today I am going with my friends from across the pond.

This is my contribution to Monday Doorways.

Let's go with the Brits! It's too lovely for such a boring word. :)

Fanlight sounds so much nicer than transom. Wonderful doorway.

Very pretty Jack. (Just had to respond to this post, as I was born in Ilford, ESSEX in the UK many "moons" ago !!) Thanks for sharing.

I often asked myself what a transom was, thinking it had something to do with the Navy!

That's beautiful Jack and I'd like to join the door folks but I can't for the life of me ever keep the days etc straight so I just don't do them anymore.

Truly, I do not think that I have ever seen a fanlight quite like this one. It is just so delicately stunning. I want to see more of this building (house).
