Commuters driving into downtown Hartford from the West get this view weekdays approaching the city on Asylum Avenue where it merges with Farmington Avenue.
This photograph was taken on a Sunday morning in November, so there was little traffic.
Drivers going into Hartford pass under the bridge at the lower left of the picture, carrying U. S. Route 84 over Asylum Avenue. To see photographs of other bridges on Sundays, visit San Francisco Bay Daily Photo.

I enjoy visiting the city, but am glad I live in town with just a few stoplights!
Classic low bridge heading into a downtown.
We have something like that, but our roads are narrower and we don't have many high rises.
I love highrises and this is a respectable skyline!
Nice skyline, I do though agree with Farmchick. I don't think I could live in a large city again.
Oh no, the gateway has a "stop" sign right in the middle! :) I like the idea of the big city kind not so crowded in the weekend, which offers then opportunities to enjoy it peacefully!
God bless you!

We 'do' 84 a lot on our many sojourns back and forth to northern NJ. Hartford is a benchmark for time etc.
It is interesting to see the view into the city, especially without traffic!
Looks rather like Ocala when you come into downtown on Highway 40...except we don't have those beeeg buildings!
Re the clock: Go ahead and post while there's still time! ;-)
Hope you're having a good day. Hey, I broke 90 today even though it was very cold and windy! Musta been the vodka. No, just kidding; all I drank was java (unlaced)!
I wonder how Asylum Avenue got it's name? I lived in the city for over 10 years and then we bailed. The only thing I miss about it sometimes now is the mix of people I'd meet and the energy from that. We enjoy visits to it now.
Nice mixture of buildings downtown! Is it in a valley?
No, silly! I shot 90 this morning. And it was 39 degrees when we started out. And I birdied the first whole - about a 350 yard par 4. Then it all went downhill.
First nine! Hah. You're really funneee!
I got a new Ping Putter called the Ug Le...it's great!
Must fit my personality!
A utilitarian bridge but with a nice skyline. Hope your weekend has been nice. :)
I love Hartford's skyline. Outside of Boston (and you could debate that) there's no prettier skyline in New England. I'm sure the traffic may affect my opinion, but I wouldn't mind seeing that every day while heading to work.
Being on the streets on Sunday mornings when no traffic and pedestrians are around gives a city a different feeling.
Really like the blocks of colors you've captured here.
Great, Jack! Welcome to Sunday Bridges!
