Museum Visit

Yesterday we went to the Bruce Museum in Greenwich, Connecticut.  We wondered if the seven and nine year old granddaughters would be bored.  Not at all.  Both -- and especially the nine year old -- found numerous art or science displays that interested them.

A photograph by Joel Sternfield fascinated the older one.  In the background, firefighters are dealing with a serious blaze, but in the middle ground a fire fighter is buying a pumpkin.

Mom and Dad explained impressionism and the granddaughter paid good attention.

A room with David Hockney works prompted more discussions.

The science rooms were even easier for the granddaughters to understand and enjoy.

The rooms with paintings that were the winning designs for duck stamps over the years were popular.

Turkey Trot

Every Thanksgiving morning the Ridgefield Boys and Girls Club sponsors a 5K road race.

Granddaugher Willa runs in the race.  This year she wore her witch hat and ran with a friend.

Son-in-law Wessel runs and granddaughter Hazel accompanies him on a scooter.

Daughter Susie finds friends and runs/walks along with them.  It is for fun, not prizes.

I always enjoy the costumes some runners wear.

The bananas have run every year I have seen the race.

Thanksgiving

Today is Thanksgiving in America.  We will be lucky once again to share a wonderful dinner with family, as we did in 2018 in these Thanksgiving photographs.

It is a time to think about how lucky we have been, to appreciate our good fortune,  and to wish the same for our family and friends.

Titicus Reservoir

The Northeast has been suffering in a drought.  When I saw the low water levels in the Titicus Reservoir in North Salem, New York, I was concerned.

Not to worry.  Titicus and other reservoirs in Westchester County serve New York City.  There is a linked reservoir upstream that needs work.  So, in preparation for emptying that upstream reservoir into Titicus so the work can be done, Titicus is now being drained so it can eventually hold that water.

Hickory Boulevard

These have been great beachfront homes on the Golf of Mexico, but with Hurricanes Helene and Milton passing through in the fall, after Hurricane Ian two years ago, the sand and destruction are getting old.

Do you ever find yourself waiting at a stop light and thinking, "Wow!  What beautiful clouds!"?

Ave Maria Catholic Church

Ave Maria is a new Catholic town that is way the heck out there, east of Naples and south of Immokalee.

Ave Maria was created 17 years ago.  The central town square is built around this Catholic church.

Cattle

There are still parts of Florida that are big cattle or horse pastures.

But, as housing developments stretch further and further out from the cities, I wonder how much longer.

Immokalee, Florida.

David

David is a friend and neighbor.  He is north of 90 years old, but plays golf once or twice a week.

David owned and operated several gift shops along the New Jersey shore before moving to Southwest Florida 20 years ago.  His wife and he are passionate lovers of classical music, from opera to symphonies to piano.
