Naples Art's exhibition of works from the collection of the late businessman William Louis-Dreyfus ends today. I managed to go before it ended. Louis-Dreyfus collected what he loved, not what is currently fashionable or perceived to be most valuable. Some artists he supported were well known and famous, but most were not. His taste was impeccable. I loved the exhibition.
Many of the exhibited works have a realistic feeling, but with painterly skill, not photographic realism. A visitor walks into the room and is hit in the face by the huge evening view of Manhattan is by French artist Jean-Baptiste Sécheret. Behind on the right is an intricately drawn Heath Hen by American artist George Boorujy On the left is the moody painting Highway - Red City by American artist Robert Birmelin.
Works by the Brit Nicola Hicks and the American Catherine Murphy meet in a corner, with Hicks' charcoal drawing of a pair of hunting dogs and Murphy's painting of a garden hose casually left in the grass.

It's exciting to see so much art that you like in one place.
Jack, thank you for showing some of the highlights from this exhibit. I would have loved seeing it in person.
