The Ice House
In the winter, a crew cuts slabs of ice from the lake and store them in the ice house. All summer long, a crew delivers ice blocks to the iceboxes in the cabins. It has been hot; hope the ice lasts the summer.
There are a few surviving ice houses in the UK, mostly associated with stately homes. All the ones I've seen are underground and lined with stone, usually under a big tree which supplies shade. Apparently they work surprisingly well.

It is surprising with the high temps lately that any ice could survive.

I didn't think this tradition existed any more. Good to see it is still alive. I remember iceboxes.
Gosh I didn't know ice houses still existed.
Ny mother told me stories about a place at a mill in Tungelsta where they used to get their cut up ice blocks back in the late 1940s.
