Colorful Houses

I am back in Connecticut until the 30th.  Even without snow, and even when houses aren't decorated,
it feels a lot more Christmas-y up here.  And, more colorful.  The top house,
in the West End of Hartford, has a "little free library" in front.

This house is on Prospect Avenue, on the West Hartford side of the Hartford-West Hartford line.
I tried to photograph it all summer long.  It is so much easier in the winter, without the leaves.

Notice the green grass in December?  Forecasters say it will be 70 degrees
(21 degrees Celsius) on Christmas day.

I always like viewing colourful houses like this. Yes... the out of whack weather is what everyone up north is talking about. I like it but I know it is not normal.

I love that the little free library is painted to match the house. I can't believe you will have 70 degrees on Christmas day.

70° on Christmas Day!! Almost summer weather! I really like how the little library is painted the same colours as the house.

Both of these houses are quite elegant looking. The period of 1890-1920 produced wonderful looking houses. I wonder if the first one might not be a Sears & Roebuck house? Sears sold all the house materials pre-cut with some assembly required. One of their models looked much like your first photo.

I love these old houses...there are so many nooks and crannies to be investigated and they're the kind of homes in which I grew up. Love that free library, too.

There`s a little library like that a few streets away from me, such a great idea!

This winter is definitely one for the books...way too temperate.

The second one suits me nicely.

That matching little free library is very cute. And are those gargoyles above the porch on the first house?? That second one is worth the return visit. It's a real classic.
We woke up to a small lake in our backyard on Christmas day. That's what a high water table and oodles of rain will do here. (We're able to pump now after engineering we did a few years back...but a night of freezing weather gave us a skating rink for variety.) This isn't terribly unusual weather here but it seems like we're the exception this year.

I recently photographed many of the same West End homes decked for the holidays! I haven't had the chance to post about it yet but plan to soon, so keep an eye out! I captured that same crazy Christmas house with the soldiers (love it!)
