"Empty Bowls" is a very successful fundraiser for the Harry Chapin Food Bank.
Local artists contribute pottery bowls that patrons buy for $15 and
local restaurants serve soup and bread to fill the bowls.
Last year the fundraiser raised $60,000 in three hours.
This year it seemed even more crowded.
Charity Navigator ranks the Harry Chapin Food Bank as #1 out of 141 Florida charities in its effectiveness and #11 out of 3,326 charities nationwide.
Terrific organization!

That's a great idea! And I always liked Harry Chapin!
A fine initiative.
This kind of fundraiser is becoming increasingly popular and successful. I had never heard of it 'til one of our MN bloggers photographed it a few years ago. Just recently forgot about one at our neighborhood highs school. Darn! Your post today reminded me of it. Did you buy a bowl and how was the soup? I would have bought the yellow bowl on the right, about third up.
So good! Great idea.
That is a fantastic idea! Do they get to keep the bowls?
Our food bank does an event exactly the same as this. I still own a couple of those artistic bowls.
That bowls me over. I'd buy one then go fill it with some French Onion soup.
What a terrific event and such a great cause!! Wish I were there!! But, as always, your pics are the next best thing!! All that's missing is the soup to fill the bowl!! Hope you have a great new week, Jack!!
Great idea! What a crowd !
Great idea. I adored Harry Chapin, even saw a live concert once. So sad when he was killed. I still have a vinyl LP by him.
They do the same event here for a charity. It is good of the restaurant owners and artists to donate their time and work to such a cause.
I would love to attend this. Nice to see so many people out supporting the cause.
That sounds like a good idea!
I loved that event when we had it here. Now we have the Souper-Bowl where 30 restuarant compeat for best Soup overall, Best Cream, Best Vegetarian and Best Savory. It has a great turn out and raises quite a bit of money.
What a great idea! It's new to me. I think the person in the tan jacket may have bought the bowl I have my eye on. White with blue flowers.
How was the soup?
