Samuel Colt

Regular viewers of this blog have seen numerous mentions of Samuel Colt, the wealthy munitions maker who became famous for the Colt .45 revolver.  His monument is in Colt Park in the south end of Hartford.

The two main statues are of Colt when he was a young sailor and when he was a rich and  powerful businessman.

This looks like the type of monument usually constructed for a political leader, not a businessman.

I prefer the young Colt, too, but both are great statues -- I just find the youthful innocence more appealing, particularly these days!! Hope your week is going well, Jack!

You did a good job composing this even though there are some who might question his contribution to society! :)

I like how it shows Colt at two very different stages in his life. It makes him seem more real...at least in my mind.

So that's the guy... He really changed history, in his own way! (I have to confess that I still own a replica of a Colt .45 revolver)

Quite an interesting contrast in these figures.

Interesting photo of Colt's statues. Colt made more of their .45 automatic than of their revolver, right?

The pose of the young Colt reminds me of the classical statue of the boy with a thorn in his foot. Just the pose I guess.
