Janet Owens has operated the Millrace Bookstore in Farmington for forty years. The bookstore occupies a few rooms in a building on the Farmington River. The building's main tenant has been the Gristmill Restaurant, which closed two weeks ago to move to a new facility. With the loss of restaurant patrons, the bookstore's foot traffic has dried up, so Janet decided it is time to retire. Miss Porter's School will take over the building. Today is the last day . . . local book lovers can stop over to say good-bye at a celebration hosted by Miss Porter's.
Enjoy your retirement, Janet.

Beautiful post Jack.
It's a real pity that the classical bookstores close. Although in this case it seems that Janet has well-deserved retirement.
Unfortunately we are loosing independent bookstores to the big boxes. Wonderful post! Happy retirement Janet.
Booksores are dying! Sadness.
I hate to see the loss of another book store but, I'm wishing Janet a very happy retirement.
I feel the same way as the others, Jack, it is a shame to lose so many of the wonderful -- little or big bookstores these days! Wonderful capture/post for the day! Enjoy your weekend!

Sad to hear of another bookshop closing but she looks like she deserves her retirement.
Oh Janet I wish I could have been there.
The portal appears to be down again for our CDPB July Theme Day of Chimneys. I have reprised the alternative method of linking used when we had issues last March. Please check here and join in if you are of a mind.

You made such a lovely portrait of this lady!
Very, very sad, methinks.
I hope that she feels ready to retire or it could be a big shock since she apparently has been active!
A lovely portrait.
So sad to hear that the bookstore is closing. You have a wonderful portrait here of Ms. Owens. I would like to see it again... in b/w.
