Corinthian Columns

On this first visit inside the Capitol, we will focus on the interior architecture.  On a later visit we can see some of the exhibitions and rooms.

The Capitol was last completely renovated over a decade, from 1979 to 1989.  It still looks good.

I thought about straightening this photo, but I thought the slant gave some energy to a quiet picture.

Impressive columns, perfectly restored!

Columns almost always give a sense of solidity to a building and these are beautifully done.

Why is it your profile eye keeps watching me even when I'm on another blog? Sheesh!

Really splendid columns Jack, somehow the black and gold patterns remind me a little of Egypt. I think you are definitely having fun with your profile pic, never know where you're going to be looking next!!

Emily Dickenson said that "there's a certain slant of light/on winter afternoons..." but you don't want to hear the rest since it does not fit your photo. But, there is a certain slant which you mentioned that adds a bit of dash to those wonderful columns.

Those are beautiful but not something I would like in my home. If it were that big of course.

This looks like part of a movie set for Cleopatra. I can envision her being carried between these columns by a bunch of bare chested men, with attendants standing between the columns with giant feathered fans on poles that they move up and down in unison to the music.

My next thought is that I need to get dressed and get in my car to go to work.

A terrific capture as always, Jack, and what beautiful columns! Such an elegant place! Love your perspective! Ah, and another angle for Sir Jack, meant to mention that yesterday! Hope you have a great day!

So ornate - what a place this is!

Lovely! And I see they spared no expense in the renovations. I agree with others that the painted columns lend an Egyptian air.

Oooh, they didn't do things half bad now did they! It's beautiful and thank goodness it doesn't need to be restored again so soon.

It's very theatrical. I'm itching to look behind the columns at that long row of lights too!

Fantastic columns. They're quite fancy!

I didn't notice the slant until you said something. What does that say about me? ;)

Beautiful detail and perspective here in your photo. The warm colors work well with the many designs and textures.

Beautiful. No wonder it took a decade to renovate.

The design is exquisite. Especially like the waves and the color scheme on the wrap around banners (need to consult my nifty old Architectural Details book so I can sound more educated than I am. :)
Lovely POV too.
