The Old Guard

The local newspaper had a notice last Tuesday, indicating that The Old Guard was meeting at the Westminster Presbyterian Church at 10 a.m.  The Old Guard was described as an organization for retired businessmen.

I imagined six stooped old guys in plaid shirts playing cards.  I thought they might make a good picture.  So, I put on an old sweater and jeans, grabbed my camera, and went.

The Old Guard has 300 members.  They attend lectures, perform charitable work like delivering meals to the elderly and infirm, and organize outings.  And, they wear nice jackets and ties.

I took a couple pictures and sneaked out of there.  If I can find a jacket and tie, I might go back some time . . .

Jackets? And ties?? After retirement??? Very curious. I wonder how many of the members asked, 'Hey - who was that guy in jeans snapping photos?'

Does sound like a great group of men -- regardless of what they wear! I'm certain that applies to you as well, Jack! Enjoy!

They are a rather formal-looking group aren't they? Maybe you can loosen them up a bit.

Great story Jack. Sometimes our assumptions can lead to entertaining results; other times not so! I hope you do revisit the group - they are bound to have some good stories of their own to tell. Have a great week.

I like all the shiny pates you captured. It's endearing, especially since these guys are involved in good works as well as ties.

This story brought a chuckle... I am with several others, I can't imge the Old Guard retired people in jackets like these. Do go back and find out who set the dress code.

You're probably not old enough to go back! Furthermore, there's probably a group of old guys in Florida you could hook up with who wear golf shirts and shorts. That sounds like more fun to me.

They look quite a classy bunch of Old Guards - But well done to them for their charitable works - You made me laugh Jack with your fashion statement - I thought it was only us women who sneak out the backdoor if we think we are under-dressed!!
