I'm in favor of the 1881 section. Did they really build that new part up out of the middle of the older part, Jack? I don't have time to Google right now. I'm hoping they are on adjacent blocks and you got the photos by standing closest to the 1881 part.
Excellent image Jack, with the modern building rising up like some futuristic alien 'thing' from the 'belly' (can I say that on here!!) of the old building!
Most buildings today are pretty BLAH in comparison to this. I really like Perth's "alien thing from the belly"! Fun, apt description! Terrific captures and I do love your composition as always, Jack! Enjoy your day!
Here I am the modernist but I don't like the new building - it looks awkward to me stuck on top of the wonderful older one! I am glad that the old structure was saved because it really is quite lovely.
I think this looks pretty good. There is a connection between the old and new - not slavish but the new does reference the old. A good solution I think. And it makes interesting photos.

Can I call a building beautiful?? There has to be another word...but I love this! Nice "looking up" shots!
Quite the contrast, and I much prefer the details of the older building.
What a nice combination of styles and colors.
I love it! Such an interesting combination of styles!
I like the bottom part, not so much the modern thing stuck on top of it. Glad they preserved the historical antecedemt!

reminds me of a similar contrast in Boston, the ultra modern Hancock Tower against the old Bullfinch designed Copley Square Church, very nice post!

It's impressive to see such an old building being already so high! I like the mix of colors, textures and styles.
I also prefer the old façade, but I think this is a great example on how to enlarge a building.
PS - If I designed the new building, I would have mimicked the roof line of the old on the new.
hee hee...
You lost «Louis» at the "modern tower rising from the middle". The older building has so much more character!
Wonderful shots Jack. I really like it when modern and old are well combined into the city landscape.
Great pictures, I really like the mix of architecture.
I would never have guessed this is one building, I thought the white tower was another building behind it. Very nice.
Great shots! Love the mix of the old and new architecture here! It makes a wonderful contrast!
Thanks for sharing, Jack;o)

Happy day****
It's very pretty! I like the brick and the details over the windows. The architecture is nice too.
Love the details from the older building. Wonderful to maintain the original building and add the modern structure.

That's why I love old buildings. They have so much class.
I love, love those handsome, old, brick buildings! They are treasures! Happy weekendo, Jacko!
Wow! That is an amazing building! Great shot.
