Toby was an English Springer Spaniel who lived with us for seventeen years.
Note to the male readers of this blog: A garden statue of the family dog is not considered an acceptable Mother's Day gift for your wife, no matter how much she likes the dog. I still don't understand . . .

LOL for your words! :)
Anyway it's a beautiful garden decoration, with lovely flowers!

Must be the wife...I would have been delighted to receive this gift. I imagine you fetched something else to delight her...
If I had a list all of the times I've screwed up... I could write THE book, believe me. Get her flowers!
Some of us prefer to keep the things we really loved inside of our hearts, protected, nested, for us alone . That's why women have so big hearts..In their hearts, you can find a lot of beloved people, memories, and lovely dogs! :)
Aw, Toby!! Great post, Dad! God I miss that dog. The garden (and the concrete dog)looks great! I'm sure mom smiles about it now - we can't win 'em all:)
There is someone in your area that can make a statue of anything you order? Wow, that's cool! ... Thank you for frequently commenting in my blog, Jack.
It's a wonderful tribute to Toby!
Harrr! harrr! Jack (still in piratey patch mode!!)it is often had to understand how to please a woman, you just have to keep trying!!!!Have to say I do like the statue though, specially with the purple petunias!
My mother in law is delighted to receive any gift that includes any dog motif. She has several photo albums on her coffee table of pictures of dogs that I have taken around the world.
We have some dear friends, a retired CEO, who is a devoted and thoughtful husband, with the exception that he learned nearly 40 years ago that a vacuum cleaner is not a good anniversary gift. His wife still talks about it.
Adorable! I'm surprised your wife didn't like it.
I like the picture, the statue... and your considerations!
I would love to receive such a great tribute to a dear family companion - 17 years - you were so lucky!
I had a birthday present of a mop and a broom once, and it wasn't a joke present either!
I think the caring and thoughtfulness of the gift is the important thing and this is beautiful, Jack! Besides, who makes that kind of decision regarding the acceptability of a gift???? I'm always just delighted when I'm remembered!!!

Hope your week is going well****
Awww, love it and I would love it for a Mother's Day gift.
Just remember, Jack:
"Yes, dear."
"I think you might be right."
Too funny!
Love this... nothing better than a member of the family. So sad when they leave us.

Perhaps the memory of your sweet dog was too painful? Remember: you can't go wrong with jewelry and perfume!
I like this picture, very well done! An adorable tribute to Toby
Wonderful, poignant post, Jack. I imagine this version of Toby has grown on your wife--did she plant the petunias in the basket?
I'm thinking your wife will grow to love this garden ornament. :))
at least you didn't give her a leaf blower! :)
Lovely the way he's nestled among the foliage!
