Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary

The Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary in eastern Collier County is at the western edge of the Everglades.
Just a slight difference in elevation produces a completely different water profile,
which in turn produces completely different animal and plant life.

This is the transition zone between an ancient bald cypress forest on the left,
grassy marshes in the middle and a scrub pine forest on the right.

Kalea Bay at Sundown

Back in Naples for a week before heading north for the holidays.

Kalea Bay is a new high-rise community.  The second building is under construction.
I thought the skeleton of the building might look dramatic against the
setting sun on a cloudy day that wasn't going to yield a really colorful sunset.

Out of the Jurisdiction: Key West Christmas Parade III

Like I said, I love parades.

Kings and queens.

Members of a Miata club decorated their cars for the parade.

Out of the Jurisdiction: Key West Christmas Parade II

Three little dancers led a marching dance troupe.

Some girls danced. Others did somersaults.  This one walked on her hands.

Out of the Jurisdiction: Key West Christmas Parade I

I love local parades.  Key West's Christmas parade runs for two hours down Duval Street.

Several floats used boats.

Four little girls sat across from mel

Some Conchettes marched, some rode.

Gingerbread and a candy cane.

This rider's music boomed!

A young participant recognizes someone.

Out of the Jurisdiction: On the Water in the Florida Keys

Some kayakers and a paddleboader.

A double-crested cormorant.

Sawgrass through the ripples.

An egret.  I think this one is a great white heron, the biggest and heftiest of the egrets.
