Writers
A Naples furniture store (Norris Home Furnishings) hosted an event last weekend for local authors. The store's designers asked the authors where they write and what their interests are, then designed spaces within the store. Writers spent a few hours on Saturday meeting readers and customers.
Ben Bova is a prolific science fiction writer. His new book is a collection of short stories about
the past, present and future. Ben lived in West Hartford for a while.

Karen Harper is a former English teacher who writes at a desk facing a rose garden in Ohio.
Her current book is the third in a series of mysteries set in small town Appalachia.
She has also written historical fiction about women like British queens and Shakespeare's wife.
Jean Harrington retired after a long career as a college English professor. Writing her own books is not as easy as it seemed when she was teaching. Her latest book -- The Design is Murder -- is the fifth in a mystery series about a Naples interior designer. It has won a Florida fiction award.
Pat McGauley is originally from Minnesota. He has written nine novels so far and three children's books. The Last Moran is about a priest, so the store's designer included
a variety of religious articles on his desk.
Karen Bartlett is a photojournalist who has written coffee table books about Naples and other travel destinations. She has also been a features and travel writer for Gulfshore Life,
a lifestyle magazine for southwest Florida. Karen's current project is a

Brown Pelicans in Chokoloskee
Chokoloskee is a small unincorporated village of about 350 residents, south of Everglades City.
When I visited, about twenty brown pelicans were roosting on piers at a marina.
