Matlacha

Matlacha (pronounced Mat-luh-SHAY) is a small fishing village with colorful

art galleries and funky gift stores, on an island connected by bridges to
Cape Coral and Pine Island.

 Color is everywhere.

Little Hickory Island

These houses are along Hickory Boulevard, a long road that connects Bonita Springs

to Fort Myers Beach along the Gulf of Mexico, through a series of islands and bridges.

On the Gulf side of the street, houses front on the road and back up to the beach.

Lake Trafford

While visiting Immokalee, I drove out to look at Lake Trafford.

It is big, quiet and beautiful.

Redlands Christian Migrant Association

The Rollason Center in Immokalee is the headquarters for Redlands Christian Migrant Association.  RCMA oversees 8o child care centers in 21 Florida counties, serving about 7,000 infants
and toddlers from migrant farm worker and other rural low income families.
Gyla is an administrator who has worked at RCMA for 33 years.

The building is in a crescent shape, bringing to mind an encircling arm protecting the children.

The ceramic mural is 250 feet long.  It is the work of artist Judith Inglese and was installed in 2008.

Mother's Day

Recently I encountered Bernice again.  Bernie is always dressed nicely and is always willing to pose for another portrait.  This time, she was accompanied by her daughter Kim, for a little pre-Mother's Day mom-and-daughter time.

Kim is a massage therapist at a local fitness center.  She specializes in myofascial massage therapy.  Don't know what that is?  Neither do I, but I have a brochure.

It was a treat seeing the way this very nice mother and very nice daughter interact.

Happy Mother's Day to all of the mothers out there, and to all who have mothers.

for the May theme of "Squares.".

The Waterside Shops in Naples is a high end outdoor shopping mall.
Pedestals topped by glass cubes with swirling patterns surround a pool.

I considered this one, too.
