Bus Shelter

The West Hartford Art League commissioned artists to paint ten glass bus shelters to celebrate the Art League's tenth year of bringing art into the community.  The shelter murals were finished last month.

This shelter is in the center of West Hartford.  Hartford's central bus station -- depicted here as it looked in 1927 -- is 3.5 miles east of here.  A bus ride from Hartford to West Hartford Center takes 20 minutes.

MBK Murals are two young artists from Willimantic who started as graffiti artists and now have a busy practice painting murals around central and eastern Connecticut.

Park Road Parade

Park Road is a street of small stores and restaurants in the southern part of West Hartford.  Every October the business association sponsors a charming little parade.  Here are some photos.  There will be more this coming week.  The top photo shows the street amid the beginnings of fall foliage.  And a spectator with foliage-colored hair.

Edgewater Beach

Branford is a shoreline town east of New Haven.  There are some pilings off Edgewater Beach.  A house sits on a very small island, nicely lined up with the pilings.

Glass House

Philip Johnson was a famous modernist architect.  For his own home, he designed

a glass house on 47 acres in a neighborhood of huge traditional homes in

New Canaan, Connecticut, near the New York border. 

Today it is operated by the National Trust for Historic Preservation and open for tours.

I'm glad I saw it but, no, I could not live there.

Dahlias

Dahlias are among the last flowers to bloom in Elizabeth Park.  But, they are spectacular.  

Some flower heads are nearly one foot across.

Details

There are so many possibilities for a theme like "details."  I chose a detail from an exhibition of costumes at the Hartford Public Library.

Hartford Stage Company is celebrating its 50th anniversary, so they had an exhibition of costumes from plays presented over the last five decades.  This dress appeared in a play in the 1978-1979 season and again in a different play in the 1994-1995 season.
