Baker Senior Center

A big, new building for Naples' senior center opened a year ago.

I recently attended an event at the senior center and got a tour.

It is very impressive.

The name on the senior center is "Baker," because of a leadership gift from Jay and Patty Baker, generous local philanthropists who have supported Naples nonprofits like the hospital, a museum, a park and now this senior center.

Holiday Decorations

I like holiday decorations.  Many are still up on Ridgefield's Main Street.

An information booth still displays holiday lights, bows and greenery swags.

Deborah Ann is a nicely decorated ice cream and candy shop.

Botanika Cafe still has its lighting and decorations.

A house down Main Street shows nutcrackers, wreaths and other greenery.

Mooring Park Communities

Naples has a big population of  affluent, aging retirees.  Moorings Park Communities operates three campuses of "life plan communities" -- previously called continuing care retirement communities.  They are proudly luxurious.  The newest, Moorings Park Grande Lake, is still under construction.

I recently attended a lecture at Moorings Park Grande Lake and took a photograph down one side of the property.  There is a similar number of units under construction out of the photograph on the left side.  I won't mention how expensive each unit is, but Google will give you the answer.

Saks Fifth Avenue

On the way up Fifth Avenue, I was blown over by the huge, mind-blowing, ornate astrological clock on Saks Fifth Avenue's facade.  The clock and the window displays cover seven stories and are jointly sponsored by Saks and Dior.

The store and its neighbor, St. Patrick's Cathedral, are always eye candy, but the clock raises the "wow factor" to a new level.

Dior and Saks collaborated on dressing the store's front windows with displays that emulated snow globes, with miniature characters and scenes of New York City.

For me, the most eye-popping window display is the miniature Saks storefront with the huge astrological clock.  Very clever.

Saks' neighbor, St. Patrick's, never disappoints, even with a pink ice cream truck as an ironic touch.

Grand Central Station

Took the family into Manhattan through Grand Central Station.  What a gorgeous place!

Outside, the marvelous Art Deco Chrysler Building peeked over a modern building to catch a glance of  the Tiffany clock and the Hercules, Minerva and Mercury statues at the top of Grand Central's facade.

Lounsbury House

Lounsbury House, Ridgefield's community center, was originally built as a home for a former Connecticut governor.  It always looks terrific for the holidays.

Back to Florida.  I'll be in Connecticut again for Christmas.
