Summer is Over

Rainy.  Gloomy.  Few blooms remaining.  Even those are damaged.

Final Pumpkin Blaze Photos

A graveyard for members of the Van Cortlandt family.

Sunflowers.

Maybe the pumpkin displays that most surprised and impressed me were the ones in which the pumpkin surfaces were scratched but not carved all the way through.  That permits pretty sophisticated images.

At one location there were eight large displays of famous artwork.  Two were The Scream by Edvard Munch and Frida Kahlo's self portrait.

More Pumpkin Blaze

A carousel made from pumpkins.

A tulip field and windmill.

I think this was grandmother's house, where Little Red Riding Hood was going.

The Statue of Liberty, carved from many stacked pumpkins.

A tall case clock, emulating the clock in the front hall of Van Cortlandt Manorl

And, a unicorn carved from stacks of pumpkins.

The Great Jack O'Lantern Pumpkin Blaze

I went to an amazing exhibition of pumpkins last week at Van Cortlandt Manor in Croton-on-Hudson, NY.  So many pumpkins!  Such creativity!  Such fun!  I'll start today with single pumpkin heads, carved much better than I carve pumpkin heads.

And a couple of complex figures carved from multiple pumpkins.

And the field of pumpkin heads that greets visitors as they enter the park.

Winning!

A personal best for biggest pumpkin.  1,717 pounds.

Another pumpkin came in at 1,767 pounds, but let's not rain on his parade.

The October theme for City Daily Photographers is "winning."
