Artis-Naples

Early arrival for the pre-performance talk.

Second movement from Mahler's Third Symphony,  Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue
and Beethoven's Symphony No. 5 in C Minor.

Wonderful.

Highlight and Shadow

Looking recently at photographs of a friend, I considered how different his photograph and mine of the same scene would be.  In his images, people are often very small.  If I have people in a scene, they are prominent.  And, he crops each photograph the way it looks best to his eye,
but mine are cropped with the image's original dimensions
in a landscape format, so they fill a computer screen.

With the City Daily Photo theme day approaching on June 1, I took a recent Florida photo illustrating the "Highlight and Shadow" theme, with a very small person, and cropped it as my friend might.

Not bad.

Huh?

There must be a reason why this shopping center painted zigzag stripes in front of the stores.

Willa is One Year Old

Granddaughter Willa's first birthday is today.  Susie and Wessel are wonderful and adoring parents.
Willa is a sweet, happy and talkative little girl.

I will visit (and hold and hug and photograph) Willa and her parents in July.

Happy birthday, Willa.

Barefoot Beach and Little Hickory Bay

It is very quiet down here now.  Many of the northerners have gone back.
The last four days have been heavenly.  Clear blue skies, still waters and no humidity.

Little Hickory Bay is glassy in late afternoon.

People are still on Barefoot Beach.

Gopher tortoises are laying eggs now.  Nesting areas are marked off.

Gopher tortoises are herbivores.

A swallow-tailed kite soars above.

Mothers Day

For Mothers Day, I remembered watching a mother elephant guide her newborn calf in Botswana in November 2015.   The frisky youngster wandered off and got daring for a bit, then was steered back in line and got his needed reassurances from mom. But, when mother said it was time to go,
her baby got the message that playtime was over and left at her side.

Happy Mothers Day to the mothers out there.
