It might be an imagined past.

Simple Pleasures

Jumping off the dock.  The diving platform and the diving board.
Canoes and kayaks and boats.  Tubes and floats and noodles. 

You can't always tell if the dads or the kids are having more fun.

It is an easy hike, but a very popular one, with a wonderful view of the lake.
It must be done at least once every year.
That is a rule.

But, it is Squam Lake.

Rappelling

On Tuesday, more than 100 people rappelled down the face of the Hartford Hilton hotel

in a fundraiser for Shatterfproof, a charity devoted to calling attention to

alcohol and drug addiction among children and young adults.

This hotel cleaner wanted to see what was going on.

No, I didn't rappel.  Years ago I went on an Outward Bound trip to Colorado and rappelled off a cliff.

I remember standing at the edge and thinking, "Let me get this right . . .

I'm going to back off perfectly good solid ground??"

Did it once.  Never again.

Take Out

Hartford's South End is home to many of the city's Hispanic residents.

This store has most of its signs in both Spanish and English,

and the side has a mural with a Puerto Rican flag.
