Apartheid Museum

I was reviewing photographs from my trip to

South Africa late last year and came across reflection

photos from Johannesburg's Apartheid Museum.  The entrance has full length photos

of South Africans of all ages and ethnicities, cut out and set against mirrors.

It can be hard distinguishing which are live and which are photos.

Tower Gallery

Tower Gallery is a cooperative art gallery on Sanibel.

After visiting the gallery for three decades, I just noticed on last week's visit

that the palm tree on the left is a sculpture.

Cool.

Brown Pelicans

Brown pelicans take pride in their grooming.

Without arms or hairbrushes, that takes some work.

Sanibel Causeway

The island of Sanibel is connected to the mainland at Fort Myers

by means of three bridges over a three-mile span.

Shuffleboard

If you ever find me playing shuffleboard, just shoot me.

Mel

Today's photo bridges Connecticut and Florida.

Mel Thomas was a star guard on UConn's elite women's basketball team from 2004 - 2008.

She was co-captain for two years and finished with nearly 1100 career points.

Her dreams of playing professional basketball crumbled along with her knees.

Today Mel is director of basketball operations at Florida Gulf Coast University,

an elite program on a much smaller scale.

Mel kept a journal about her senior season, parts of which were published in 

The Hartford Courant.  She turned it into a book, Heart of a Husky. 

People on the Street

Like many of you, I put some effort into

minimizing the inclusion of people in street scenes I photograph.

But, in some places -- like Venice -- the scene wouldn't be the scene without the people.

And like New York City's High Line.

And like the celebrations of Nelson Mandela's life in Joburg.
