Wandering - II

Here are some more photos from wandering around my community.

A great egret was hunting, unsuccessfully while I was there.

This alligator likes to sun himself near the women's tees on the 18th hole.

I see great blue herons often.  This one was watching golfers tee off on the 8th hole.

Pileated woodpeckers often announce their arrival with a loud squawk.

Wandering - I

I live in a golf community that is an Audubon Certified Sanctuary.  Most days I get in my golf cart and wander the community looking for wildlife for an hour or so.  Here are some results from a recent day.

A brown pelican flew past the boardwalk.

A spotted sandpiper visited the end of the boardwalk.

Some red-breasted mergansers swum past the boardwalk.  I had never seen them here before.

Little blue herons are common here.  This one likes the boardwalk but I see most LBHs elsewhere.

Christmas Cow and Flamingo

My favorite ice cream place in SWFL is Royal Scoop.

They have dressed up a cow and a flamingo for the Christmas season.  The cow has an ear tag identifying her as Anita Milkshake.

Tomaso Albertini

This year's resident artist at Naples Art is Tomaso Albertini, a young Italian-born artist who usually works out of New York City.

According to his website:  These works are a series of portraits that transform the human being into a new eco-human entity.  Figures of a modern hero who represent those people who care for and struggle daily to preserve the environment.

His portraits use cardboard, a symbol of consumerist New York, to create three-dimensional art.  He accomplishes a figure as if it were a sculpture and then paints on it as if it were a canvas. This unique technique introduces dynamics approaching sculpture.
