During our barge trip, we took an excursion to Chateau du Clos de Vougeot, where Cistercian monks made wine in the 12th century.
Wine from the Vougeot fields is still greatly prized.
The chateau displays several centuries-old wine presses. These days, the chateau is home to a brotherhood of wine aficionados called Confrérie des Chevaliers du Tastevin (literally "Fraternity of the Knights of the Wine-Tasting Cup"), established in 1934 to generate appreciation of Burgundy wines.

What a wonderful museum of wine making. That wine press could be from the 12th Century, but it appears to have a plant growing in it.
I am curious if you tasted any Vougeot?
We did. I am not a wine connoisseur, but the friends who know more than I said it was exquisite.
An interesting brotherhood.
Nice. Most winedrinkers will only taste and drink Vougeot only a few times in their life.
