Musee d'Orsay

Musee d'Orsay is a left bank museum along the River Seine.  It was developed from a converted railway station.

Two huge clocks draw onlookers' eyes.

Whistler's Mother is in a quiet location on a side wall.

Jeanne d'Arc.

The museum currently holds a big exhibition of works by the American artist, James Singer Sargent.
His famous Madame X has a place of honor, as do his studies for the portrait.

Sargent's masterpiece The Daughters of Edward Darley Boit usually resides at Boston's Museum of Fine Arts.  At d'Orsay, it swarmed with viewers, but I was able to catch a quiet moment.

This museum has a fascination history, and I am delighted it has become a museum in 1986 showing great art. I'm surprised to see American artists featured in their traveling show.
