Cemetery

The Beers and Cornen families have nearby monuments.

Many names are on each monument, but the biggest and most ornate memorial on the Beers monument is for a boy who died at six years old in 1864.

The biggest memorial on the Cornen monument is for a seventeen year old girl who died in 1865.

"The rose blooms, it withers and is lost to sight, but not to memory."

Cemeteries are fascinating places for the stories they tell. They are often tragedies of young lives cut short for various reasons.

Growing up I feared cemeteries, horribly but in my adult years I finally learned how important, peaceful and interesting these places are. Each and every one of them. The stories one can learn, the symbols that they hold and what they mean. If ever you feel lost or empty and need to remember to be grateful and thankful (shut off the news media) put your phones down and spend an afternoon in a cemetery.

Yes, they are vital in so many ways.

I am a bit addicted to cemeteries these days. All thanks to a day when I decided to take a shortcut through Skogskyrkogården.
