Jack, what a wonderful looking companion. Such a sweet face.
In reference to your question about the book, "Hillbilly Elegy", I have not read it, yet. I am familiar with the book and the author. I did listen to his interview on NPR and I think he does significant justice to the fact that you don't have to be stuck in your given situation. There are many excellent and well educated people in the Appalachian areas. As a teacher I see many of the social problems that he discusses in his book. This area is incredibly rich in history and folklore. I was fortunate to have very long lived grandmothers who passed down orally family history, as well as folklore beliefs.
Silas House, (an exceptional KY author), is not fond of this book and suggests reading, "Uncommon Ground", to put the book in context.

Have they adjusted to the colder weather yet? This one looks quite content to be snoozing in the warmth.

Always good to have a dog or two around :) He was probably very happy to be with you!
The best kind of company to have! I hope you had the heat turned up for them, Jack!
What a nice image. The dog probably needs a little rest from all the festivities the last few days.:)
A good snooze is called for this time of year!
She's nicely color coordinated with her surroundings. You planned it that way, right?
