Sandhill Crane

Sandhill cranes aren't seen very often down here.

This was one of a pair strolling on a lawn next to Lake Trafford,
about an hour east of Naples.

Splendid birds! We have a very small population of Common Cranes that have made Eastern England their home; it's always exciting to spot one.

Why do we have boring old great blue herons instead of these magnificent red-headed birds? Gorgeous shot and creature!

Wonderful shot!

My mother loved Japanese cranes and gave me a book about them.
My Dad gave me Audubon's Birds of America when I was about 8-10 years old and it was a favorite of mine.

These birds we do have. In fact, one golf course I play, seems to have a pair who have decided to make a home there.
