Stay Off the Grass, Please!

The Mayor of Hartford recently issued a directive prohibiting office workers from playing organized Ultra Frisbee games on Bushnell Park at lunch times.

Why?  Some of the players wear cleats, and the Mayor is worried that they will chew up the green lawn of the park.  There are other parks where organized games can be played, but permits are required and the parks are not right next to the downtown office buildings, like Bushnell.

A better solution?  Tell players to wear sneakers, not cleats. ( I am pleased to waive my usual consulting fee for assisting in this matter . . . )

What a problem solver you are Jack .... a simple solution to a complex problem.

I think you are more qualified to be mayor than the mayor.

We should encourage office workers to get some exercise on their lunch hour.

I agree. That would be too easy, though and would not give the mayor the opportunity to pretend he has some power.

Like the photo! Is that a church in the background. And you did not know what that photo was all about!

They should invite the Mayor for a game in the park.

There's always someone to ruin a lovely day, isn't there.

Goodness! You think they'd be happy that there are people getting out and about instead of sitting in front of their computers during the lunch hour. I agree, your solution sounds more reasonable.

What a lovely sunny day for a game and I like so much this picture with the beautiful building on the background! :)
Dear Jack, have a nice weekend,

What a guy you are, Jack, to waive your fees!! Considering our overweight country, seems like we should be cheering the players on or better yet, join them -- but they could change their shoes. I do hate to see the parks/grass ruined. Enjoy your weekend!

My fellow citizen will ride their scooters just there, parking them around the play field...

Cleats, they can do damage.. we always warn the soccer and football players to put on their street shoes post-game so they don't chew up the floors in the school buses... hopefully someone in authority with be as forward thinking as you!

Sounds like Paris... the grass is lovely but please stay off! I am sure that they will take your counsel.

Great commentary! And great comments too, some of them made me smile! :-) Beautiful background.

Honest to goodness - who not just tell people not to wear the cleats, making it clear that all will lose their grass privileges if the directive is not heeded? People do a pretty good job of policing themselves if given guidelines...

As always there are arguments on both sides I think, but why is it that authorities don't seem to look for win-win solutions like yours?

The mayor sounds like a spoil-sport! Great building in the background.

The mayor needs to chill. Pretty grass isn't everything.

But if someone slips and twists his ankle they'll probably sue you, Jack. I wouldn't get involved if I were you!

I agree with you, Jack.
